If one had to define Kat in one word, it would be consistent. Consistency, in all forms, is the baseline for everything that she has done and continues to do. A mother of 6, and having lived around the world, Kat has experienced carious facets within the health and wellness industry, all of which have collectively provided her with insight that she gradually translated into the Method that she developed to date.
“I became intrigued by the incredible potential of how purpose-driven movement can enhance our lives and well-being.”
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Kat’s fascination with both fitness and nutrition started at a very young age. Surrounded by a family member that was always active, the importance of movement was instilled in Kat’s mind throughout her teenage years. After discovering a love for running at the age of 17, Kat embarked on her own personal journey in improving her long-distance running: with the main goal being overcoming the mental struggle involved in completing a 20Km run.
“My understanding of fitness and movement has since been influenced by many years of experience in conventional training.”
After completing a BSc in Exercise Sports Science, Kat followed her heart and where she felt most comfortable: human movement and the ability of each person to build movements into their fitness regime that translated into their everyday lives. Movements that extended beyond rehabilitation, and combined strength and conditioning without being overbearing on the joints.
After moving to New York, she decided to attain further certification in both fitness and Nutrition.
A mother of six, Kat started the development of Method by Kat as far back as 2004, with the birth of her first child. She was intrigued by finding ways to strengthen her body, without having to do the conventional type of training she grew accustomed to over the years. Finding ways to utilize her body, with minimal equipment, to strength, sculpt, and define: the three pillars of which are the foundation of Method by Kat today.
“My passion is fitness, my motivation is my kids, and my key is consistency.”
Her appreciation, passion and dedication towards fitness and health is translated through her Method – with her clients not only getting stronger and leaner aesthetically, but also becoming more mindful in their capabilities, making smarter lifestyle choices, and developing a deeper appreciation for themselves and their abilities.
RESEARCH IN MOTION: THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHOD BY KAT
After years of doing diverse types of training herself, from running to weight lifting, Kat always found herself gravitating back to the functional body weighted movements she had started to develop after the birth of her first daughter. Movements that she had consistently built on over the years through various stages in her life. Movements that have enhanced her mobility, flexibility, as well as her ability to better understand how the body responds to the fluidity of motion.
“We grow the ability to strengthen the mind to not only carry us through our workout, but to stay strong mentally for the rest of the days challenges.”
Having briefly worked with athletes in need of rehabilitation, this further deepen her curiosity around the body’s ability to move, and the importance of multidirectional movements in strengthening the body: even after injury. An aspect that is often overlooked which plays a vital role in progression: the power of the mind and its role in the body’s ability to engage the muscles effectively and efficiently.
“Move with a purpose, move for empowerment, move for more then physical change. It’s a movement that becomes a lifestyle.”
In 2014, the years of primary research accumulated to the conceptual creation of Method as a full body workout – with sequences built upon fundamental movements that are built upon. The use of lower weights, with higher repetitions, and elements of cardio, while respecting each person’s range of movement are the essence of Method by Kat.
